Ekiben there, done that: Chichibu Tetsudo

A trip on the Paleo Express version of Saitama Prefecture's Chichibu line is basically just a slower version of the regular train ride. There are, however, two very important differences that might make the journey worthwhile for those who find themselves in a nostalgic mood. The first bonus is the beautifully maintained steam locomotive engine at the front. Its coal furnace and billowing smoke stack are among the more romantic and stylish ways to contribute to global warming while visiting Japan. There is also an opportunity to purchase a special, Chichibu line ekiben as you head toward the magical mountains for which the region is famous.

You should! Japan is a dream for tourists, i.e. much easier to get around than most places in Asia.
